Billy Bullock with his Mesa Rectoverb combo
Billy Bullock testimonial for Mesa Rectoverb combo

Dear Mesa/Boogie,

At the risk of redundancy, I wanted to write and congratulate you on building the absolute best guitar amplifiers and speaker cabinets in the business. (I'm sure you've heard that over and over and over). I play in a cover band and currently own a Rect-O-Verb 1x12 Combo and a 1x12 Recto closed-back extension cabinet.

For me, the best thing about the Boogie is the endless, versatile tone. Along with the best tube amp ever, the combination of the open-backed cabinet of the combo and the closed-back extension offers up infinite tonal possibilities.

As some or all of you are more than likely aware, playing in a cover band requires a ton of flexibility when it comes to recreating the guitar sounds of various artists. The Mesa delivers all with ease. Every knob/adjustment on the amplifier gives you all you could want (and more) of that color of the spectrum. Only a slight "tweak" of any of the controls is necessary to affect the end result.

I've owned other amps (I won't name names) where I wondered why they even bothered including some of the controls, as they had little or no effect on shaping tone.

Two other features I would like to mention - Gain and Solo. Folks, the gain on this amplifier is absolutely unbelievable. If you wanted, you could strike a note, go eat lunch, come back and finish your solo...really.

Speaking of solos, the Solo feature is the stuff of which dreams are made.  I don't know about the rest of the club bands out there, but ours can't afford the luxury of a soundman. Having that solo switch is the perfect answer for getting your solo heard without having to monkey with the volume knob on the guitar (or actually going and turning it up in the mix). It's a beautiful thing.

Finally, I would like to say to all potential Mesa/Boogie customers out there, although there are many guitar amplifiers on the market, don't make the mistake of not playing through one (or all) of these amplifiers before making a purchase decision. As a matter of fact, when you play through a Boogie, the decision will be made for you.

Thanks Mesa for being and thinking like guitar players. I, for one, am truly grateful.

Sincerely,

Billy Bullock
